Synopsis: Lexicon
This review is going to be one of my more praising reviews about the book and the author. If that doesnt sound like something you want to read quick review.
The book was damn amazing. I loved it from beginning to end and I could not say enough good things about this. On multiple occasions I had a difficult time putting down the book and would get lost within its pages for hours. The author may be one of my favorite authors ever. I would literally suggest any of his books to read. They are all extremely enjoyable, well written and fun. Check them out.
Like I said above this was one of the best books I have read for a while. To be completely fair the only books I have read for the last two years were school books... but still easily one of my favorite books. It started out strong and within the first few pages i was captured. I drove through this book like a forklift. Each chapter would end and I would check the clock and think I can do one more. In the mornings at Starbucks I would spend the entire time reading the book, completely forgetting about my coffee. It has been a long time since I have got lost in a book like this. When I lived in Portland, the first time this happened was Jennifer Government by Max Barry, I sat down and burned through the book cover to cover. There have only been a few times since then that I have felt that way about a book and this was one of them. I dont have the time to read an entire book from beginning to end like I used to, but I know something is good when I find myself reading instead of watching movies or playing video games.
The Best:
The story overall. I was so intrigued from the start. I just wanted to know what would happen. Also there were small bread crumbs throughout the book where he lead me to small fun discoveries. The final most impressive aspect was how he broke down the story into three separate but intertwining sections. It was amazing.
The Worst:
I will say there was only one part of the story that felt a little off was the end. I wont spoil anything, but it felt a little weird how it ended. It felt wrong based on the story that lead to it. Still good, just off.
Overall:
This story was a blast and a super quick read. I loved all aspects of the story and would suggest for anyone. If you like this check out anything else by him. His weakest being "Company". This book was still excellent, but out of everything he has written it is his weakest book.
Bonus: Ranking of Max Barry books:
1. Lexicon
2. Jennifer Government
3. Syrup
4. Machine Man
5. Company
