Attack the Block

Synopsis: Attack the Block

When Attack the Block was first being advertised and I saw the first trailer I was really excited about watching it. I dont really know why it took me this long to see it,  but I remember it having a super small theatrical release, then it went to Amazon and red box for rental, and then it was even on Netflix for while. I had an insane amount of opportunity to check it out, but somehow I missed it. A couple months ago my coworker Cam was talking about it and I was thinking how it was a shame I had not watched it yet. After this I checked on Amazon, but it was not available for rental any more only as a buy option. If it was $6.00 for the buy I would have bought it right there, but $9.99 for a movie I would only watch once seemed to high. Well last weekend it became available for rental and I had to do it. Finally after this epic journey I was watching this well reviewed movie... but was it worth wait?

Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer

Synopsis: Annihilation (amazon)

After I finished reading Lexicon by Max Barry (check out my previous post on this), I jumped on Amazon to check out other books the people who enjoyed lexicon have purchased. The two that stood out were Annihilation and Brilliance. So I went onto the KCLS website to put brilliance on hold because that one intrigued me a bit more. Maybe a week later I went to the library to drop off and pick up some comics. As I was leaving I took a look at the impulse checkout shelves and saw Annihilation. I decided it looked thin enough that I could probably finish it before Brilliance became available, so I grabbed it. The book is thin and short and is part of a saga which seems fun. I was able to finish it in about a week or so and I have to say it was pretty good. I found myself drawn to it with a little less pull than Lexicon, but still constantly thinking about it. The book had a great combination of size and draw for me.

Lexicon by Max Barry

Synopsis: Lexicon

This review is going to be one of my more praising reviews about the book and the author. If that doesnt sound like something you want to read quick review.

The book was damn amazing. I loved it from beginning to end and I could not say enough good things about this. On multiple occasions I had a difficult time putting down the book and would get lost within its pages for hours. The author may be one of my favorite authors ever. I would literally suggest any of his books to read. They are all extremely enjoyable, well written and fun. Check them out.

The Raid 2

Synopsis: The Raid 2

Let me start by saying that I saw "The Raid: Redemption" in theaters on its very limited run after people talked about it as though it was the best martial arts movie ever. I left the theater that day a little disappointed. It was good, cool fighting, great action, but gave me a similar feeling to "Ong-Bak" because of the pointless story. This is why I think I loved "Dredd" so much. The exact premise as The "Raid" but a more fleshed out story, better characters and really cool action. All of this brings me to the "The Raid 2". I felt the reviews for this movie were mostly negative, but the trailer looked really good. I was shocked at how much I loved this movie. The action was intense and the story interesting. I sat there glued to the screen during all filler story parts and found myself yelling and cheering at the fight scenes. The movie was amazing!!

How to train your Dragon 2

 http://littlemovieposters.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/dragon-2.jpg?w=750
Synopsis: IMDB

I remember watching HTTYD in the theater a couple years back and thinking, "its good not great". I really dont know why I have that thought about that movie. I remember really enjoying it, but for some reason it didnt grab me like it grabbed my wife. We decided to go to the theater and check this out. I was shocked how much I enjoyed this movie. It was very cleanly written, well directed, and performed. The story was great. And it was daring... probably the best word I could use for that sentiment. I will honestly say I have very little to say on the negative side. The movie was just really enjoyable. One of the things that will always shock me about modern animated movies (Anything pixar, dispicable me, etc) is how often I am brought to tears. There were multiple moments when I tried with all my might to fight back tears... only to find my self in a losing battle.

Hey Guys,

This is my new blog. This is not my first blog unfortunately. In the past I had multiple blogs. One blog that got me in trouble because I complained about something and some people were not happy. It was quite unfortunate. One of my other blogs i did a post that got a lot of traffic and that was cool at first, but it was for all the wrong reasons. So I abandoned it... also as much as I liked that blog I was just starting school and got distracted. One day out of frustration that my only popular post was not about video games I deleted that blog. Also I hope I am a little different from that person that I was 4 years ago. So new person... new blog.

My Goal:

Is to first entertain and second to inform.... Nah not really. I am mostly going to review things I watch, read, eat, drink, visit, do... etc. I may make some meaningless top ten lists, but overall my goal is to have fun and keep this stuff off of my facebook. My wife informs me that not everyone wants to read my long messages on facebook about this, that, or the other.

My other goal is to keep my writing concise. As you have probably already figured out I am very long winded... when I type I type a lot of extra stuff that is unnecessary (ex. this sentence). I am going to keep my posts to a couple of paragraphs. If I review a movie instead of writing a synopsis, I will link to one. I will give my two cents maybe give a couple examples and move on. People dont like reading crazy long stuff. (this should be my longest post minus maybe a top 10.)

Final goal is to try and link my entire internet presence together. I have a twitter, facebook, untapped, twitch, youtube, gomiso, etc, etc, etc. I want to have a landing pad for all of these. This will allow me to say you like this video read my review here. You like this comment check out my full work up. Enjoy this beer see my process for making it or something.

Content:

I love to read (books and comics), watch movies, play video games, watch some tv, go places, do things, drink beers, and so on and so forth. My main focus will be reviews of beer, comics, books, movies, and tv shows. If I have an adventure day I will post the pics here. If I go to a cool brewery the experience... right here. My life will become this blog. The only other content might be my wife as a guest blogger. I really want her to do this, but I dont know if it is possible. For example she has played papers please, kingdom hearts, wolf among us, walking dead, and broken age. These are all games that would be awesome to review... but I have not played them. So I will try to get her to review them... we will see internet... we will see.

Overall:

I would love for people to come to my site and read my stuff, but if it never happens... it never happens. One day I hope to be a person who works full time (as I do) and blogs as a hobby (as I am)... goal met. But seriously I have always loved the idea of becoming internet famous and maybe one day this will happen... until then this is my new blog. Enjoy!!
